Footprints in Kedarnath

Kedarnath, an incredible destination of Char Dham Yatra is only 42 km from Badrinath. It is believed that Shankaracharya attained Samadhi here. Kedareshwara is the presiding deity at the Kedarnath Temple.
It is a Hindu Holy town in Rudra Prayag district of Uttarakhand. Kedarnath is located at 3584 meters above sea level and lies near to the head of the river Mandakini. Kedarnath is one of the twelve Jyothir lingas of the Lord Shiva.

The major attraction of the place is the Lord Shiva temple at Kedarnath or Kedarnath Temple is said to have been originally built by the Pandavas to cleanse their sins that they incurred during the Kurukshera war.

Kedarnath is not a very attractive town; in fact it’s almost unbearable at the height of the pilgrimage season. It’s a grey place housing central thoroughfare stretching for 500m between the temple and administrative offices. However, the sheer power of its location tends to sweep away any negative impressions, and it’s always possible to escape to explore the astonishing high-altitude scenery.
